OH JACKIE!

“Pearls are always appropriate.”

Jackie O

A taxi driver once asked, “You work?”

Her reply. “Yes.”

Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis knew exactly what she wanted and she knew how to get it. She worked hard for it. She figured out how to get paid for doing exactly what she loved to do. She wasn’t afraid to work amongst the men. She too was old school and adhered faithfully to the self-effecting credo espoused by the legendary editor, Maxwell Perkins who said.

“The book belongs to the writer.”

Her mother and father wanted her to attend Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. But after her first semester, Jackie said, “No way.” She started going home every weekend. By her junior year, she was off to France. When she returned to the United States, she attended George Washington University, where she earned her degree in French Literature.

After college, she worked at the Washington Times Herald as a photographer.

Well before becoming the First Lady, she was engaged to World War II vet and Wall Street banker, John Husted. It didn’t take long for her to call off the engagement due to the reservations of being a housewife. She wanted more for herself and her life. So she went out and got it.

She became a wife. A Mother and a widower. Still…she conquered.

Famous for her pink Chanel suit and pillbox hat. Jackie held her head high. She had style, elegance and sophistication no matter what life through at her. She knew God only gives His most difficult challenges to His strongest soldiers.

In addition to belonging to the FLOTUS group, she remains one the most popular first ladies of our time.

Oh, yeah. Jackie O had a job. She loved being an editor. She knew talent when she saw it. Jackie loved a good story. Loved her work.

Therefore, I salute Jackie Onassis for living her dream.

“If you produce one book, you will have done something wonderful with your life.”
